flour, me too

I find her cookbooks very intimidating, but her food is delicious and Joanne Chang looks so darn nice that I can't stay away.  My failed attempt at her Birthday Cake will always haunt me, but today's Vegan Vanilla-Mixed Berry Muffins were meant to be mine.  I substituted chopped cherries for raspberries and they still turned out well.

I loved her chapter, In Our Pantry.  She keeps no secrets.

  2. My daughter would have eaten all of these if she had her druthers... meanwhile, we got home and she told me that you gave her strawberries -- "TWO STRAWBERRIES!" -- from your garden... little did you know, you are our slow food guru. As a sidenote, I asked L if she thanked you for the berries. She said, "No. I forgot..." So, thank you...

  3. Hmm, I wonder what inspired you to pick a vegan recipe?? I really need to get at least one of her books, I admire her perfectly buttery but pretty expensive pastries so much. I just tried the new bread + butter cafe in the North End--delicious pastries, but just as good as Flour with less selection. She sets a tough bar to top.
    I too love pantry exposé.
